Rent the Hall

Main floor. You come in level with the ground onto a wood floor, with a stage at one end and a bar and mini fridge at the other, and along one whole side a wall of folding and sliding glass doors that opens onto the Cove. There are decks at the side and the back to spill out onto. Two gender-neutral washrooms, one of them accessible, both with baby-changing tables.

Upper floor. Up a flight of stairs are the kitchen and the dining room — two stoves, a refrigerator, a freezer — and a deck running the length of the front that looks out to the LaHave Islands.

Worth knowing while you plan: the kitchen is upstairs and the main room is down. Most events manage the stairs without trouble, but if any of your guests will find them difficult, that is the thing to design around.

Drawn layouts for both floors, six each, with the tables and chairs positioned and the numbers worked out. The drawings carry room dimensions, so you can check whether a band, a dance floor or a head table will fit before you commit.

These are comfortable arrangements rather than maximums, which is why they sit under the Fire Marshal’s figures. For a fitness class: twelve yoga mats fit comfortably on either floor.

Chairs: 120. Chair covers: 75 white, 50 grey. Tables: six wood folding at 8′ (28″ × 96″), three plastic folding at 6′ (28″ × 72″), and one wood table at 12′.

The kitchen is properly equipped, this being a hall that has fed a great many people over the years. There is cutlery for well over a hundred, dinner and lunch and dessert plates, soup and dessert bowls, and 58 white scallop-shell dishes. Fifty wine glasses, 48 champagne, sixty-odd water glasses and a range of bar glassware. Coffee urns and drip makers. Two 18-quart roasters, eight pots, four frying pans and four oven roasters. Tablecloths, and vinyl seaside covers for the tables outdoors. Two highchairs, and a barbecue on the back deck.

A projector screen is available on request — ask for it when you book rather than on the day. There is no projector and no PA system at the hall, so bring your own projector, and if you need a PA it can be rented locally; ask and we will point you at the options.

Parking is limited. There is room along Highway 331, though if cars end up on both sides please leave enough width for a fire truck to get through. There is more parking on Beach Road, just off the 331 and a couple of minutes away.

Outside there is a fire pit, a beach volleyball court and net, picnic tables and swings, and the Wi-Fi reaches out across the grounds. The beach is two minutes down the road.

The main floor is fully accessible, with level entry, an automatic door, and an accessible washroom that has its own door to the outside. The upper floor and its kitchen are reached by stairs only. If you are planning something and want to talk through what will work and what won’t, ask, and someone will walk you through it.

Payment. Weddings and multi-day bookings take a 50% deposit, with the balance due before the event. Everything else is due in full by the deadline in your approval email. Payment is by e-transfer to treasurer@broadcovehall.ca, or ask bookings@broadcovehall.ca to arrange something else.

Getting in. Once payment is received, we email you a door code.

Cancellation. More than 14 days out, a full refund. Between 7 and 14 days, half. Under 7 days, no refund.

Alcohol. If you are serving, you need the appropriate Special Occasion Licence from the NSLC and you follow their rules. Occupancy limits drop when alcohol is served — see the table above.

The house rules, in full and in short: no smoking or vaping inside or on either deck. Quiet time begins at midnight. Painter’s tape only for decorations, and nothing at all fixed to the Cape Cod siding outside. No overnight stays on the property. Leave the hall as you found it — there is a cleaning checklist posted on site, and cleaning supplies are in the closet.
