Ice Cream Social and Design Launch of Accessibility Renovations Campaign
Aug 15 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
The Broad Cove Community Organization hopes you can join us for an  Ice-Cream Social ?on Sunday, August 15, from 1-3 at the hall! (Rain or shine) No charge!
This will be a great opportunity to catch up with neighbours and friends, to have an ice cream sundae or a glass of lemonade, play a game of horseshoes, swing on the swings or play a little beach volleyball. Bring along your bocce set or other outdoor games, or simply sit and enjoy the seaside air. ?
It will also be an opportunity to view our exciting new design for the hall, developed by the architect Logan Amos!
As many of you know, we have been involved in a plan to improve the hall so that it is “a warm and welcoming place to enjoy year round for all ages and abilities with a reduced carbon footprint.” and have completed many improvements over the past few years ( new furnace, windows, insulation, doors, water treatment, roof, sign, etc) We achieved these steps with fundraising, donations , and grant assistance from MODL and NS Communities, Culture and Heritage.
The next stage in our process was the development of a plan to achieve true accessibility, while still maintaining the integrity of our vintage hall and optimizing our beautiful seaside location and views.  Logan Amos’s design helps us view the path forward into a beautiful, accessible, and post-Covid future.
We are currently exploring funding opportunities, events and donations to bring this design to life and welcome your input and ideas to the process.
Hope you and your families can make it!

Fireside Chat with Capt. Roy
Sep 2 @ 8:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Fireside Chat with Capt. Roy

A FIRESIDE CHAT WITH CAPT. ROY

Capt. Roy Dagley, one of the South Shore’s most successful sea captains, will share compelling stories of his more than fifty years on the water, at Broad Cove Hall, Thursday, September 2, (7 – 8:30 p.m.).

Capt. Roy saw lots of changes over his years of fishing, from when his father finally agreed to take him lobster fishing on his sixth birthday, through rising through the ranks to become a highliner captain at National Sea. He also maintained a lobster fishing license until he retired in 2020.

Despite some close calls and tight spots, the 76-year-old Voglers Cove resident says, “I loved every minute of it.” As informal host, Eric Hustvedt will ask the occasional question and the evening will include lots of time for questions from the audience.

Tickets for the story-telling night are $10 each. Because of pandemic capacity restrictions, and social distancing requirements, only 28 tickets will be sold. Advance purchase recommended.   Call 677-2312 to purchase.

Proceeds from the “fireside chat” will go towards accessibility improvements at the vintage Broad Cove Hall, (7147 Hwy 331, Broad Cove.) Watch for more story-telling sessions to come later throughout the fall.

People interested in Roy’s early career might also like to see him featured in the 1966  National Film Board film, Trawler Fishermen, available on YouTube.
